Equal Voices Town Hall meeting Sat. May 17th from 11-2
East Central Community Center: 500 S. Stone
Families are encouraged to participate.
This is a nationwide campaign to develop and advance a national agenda that puts families first. Led by grassroots organizations, the campaign will amplify the voices of families with low incomes, draw attention to the economic challenges these families face, and promote change at the national and local levels.
Equal Voices Campaign is a yearlong effort to engage families with low incomes through Town Hall gatherings, building momentum for national convenings in September 2008. The purpose of these Town Halls is to bring the voices and experiences of struggling families to the forefront and develop a platform of shared values, principles, and issues. There will be 4-5 Town Halls around the state - Seattle/Tacoma, Monroe, Spokane, Bellingham, and potentially Yakima. The Monroe Town Hall has been organized with the Black Prisoners Caucus Summit and will take place at the Monroe Correctional Facility. The Town Halls will include elements of sharing personal stories, skill building and political education. The gatherings will be family friendly, including transportation, meals, interpretation, and childcare.
